Daniel Donovan – Managing Director

Daniel is the Director of Taranaki Reinforcing, bringing extensive hands-on experience in reinforcing steel and construction project delivery across New Zealand.

With more than 20 years of reinforcing installation experience and 31 years in the reinforcing industry, Daniel has developed a deep understanding of the technical and practical requirements involved in delivering high-quality reinforcing work on site. His background working directly in the field has given him a strong appreciation for the importance of accuracy, planning, and attention to detail, ensuring reinforcing is installed correctly, safely, and in line with engineering specifications.

Daniel founded Taranaki Reinforcing with the goal of building a company known for skilled workmanship, strong site relationships, and dependable service. Under his leadership, the business has grown by consistently delivering reinforcing work that meets strict safety, quality, and scheduling expectations.

Daniel’s practical experience and collaborative approach allow Taranaki Reinforcing to contribute to project constructability, program certainty, and early engagement with project teams, supporting successful outcomes on complex builds.
As Director, Daniel remains closely involved in project planning, client relationships, and site operations. His practical industry knowledge and commitment to high standards ensure that every project is approached with professionalism and attention to detail.

Daniel is passionate about building long-term partnerships within the construction industry and contributing to projects that strengthen New Zealand’s infrastructure and communities.

Bash Cina – Operations Manager

Bash Cina – Operations Manager

Bash is TKREO’s Operations Manager, a role he has held since 2024, responsible for overseeing the production and on‑site installation of reinforcing steel across client projects. Working closely with customers, Bash ensures steel delivery and installation align with project timelines, while collaborating with the detailing team to keep workshop production on schedule and managing stock levels. He also oversees equipment maintenance and repairs, as well as health and safety for the team.

With 23 years’ experience in the construction industry, Bash brings extensive hands‑on and leadership expertise to his role. His background includes working as a foreman in precast concrete production and leading an urban maintenance team. He also spent 16 years in the UK reinforcing industry, involved in steel fixing, rigging, and lifting operations on major infrastructure projects such as the Wimbledon Substation, the London Crossrail project and Heathrow Airport Terminal 2. Earlier in his career, Bash worked in a reinforcing cut‑and‑bend workshop, building a strong foundation in steel production.

Having transitioned from a practical trade background into an operations and administration role, Bash brings invaluable real‑world knowledge that strengthens TKREO’s service delivery and supports the wider team.

Dave Flyger – Placing Manager Bay of Plenty

Dave Flyger – Placing Manager Bay of Plenty

Dave is a true grassroots member of the TKREO team, having entered the trade at just 15 years old tying steel and steadily working his way up through the industry.

With over 20 years’ experience as a placing manager in the Central North Island for TKREO and other companies, Dave brings deep operational knowledge to every project. Prior to this, he owned and operated his own placing company for 25 years, subcontracting to steel suppliers and building firms across the region.

Dave’s extensive hands‑on experience makes him a valuable asset to TKREO and to the clients we work alongside. His expertise enables us to confidently deliver projects throughout the Bay of Plenty, managing both subcontract placers and our own placing crews. Known for his practical, get‑it‑done approach, combined with a strong focus on relationships and workmanship, Dave ensures projects run smoothly, efficiently, and to plan.

Phil Lilly – Quality Systems / Contract Support

Phil Lilly – Quality Systems / Contract Support

Phil joined TKREO in 2021 tasked with strengthening internal systems and lifting the professionalism of the business. Since then, he has led the development and implementation of a comprehensive quality management system certified to ISO 9001, and upgraded TKREO’s health and safety framework to align with the SiteWise audit standard, achieving Gold certification for 2025–26. Phil also provides input to construction contracts and project programmes, and is currently leading the development of a materials testing laboratory designed to meet ISO 17025 requirements.

Phil brings extensive management experience across the building construction and maintenance sectors. He was previously the owner and director of a commercial construction company and has held senior leadership roles including Area Manager at PAE Facilities Management and Branch Manager at Wormald. Earlier in his career, Phil worked as a control systems technician in the petrochemical sector, providing a strong technical foundation that continues to inform his approach to quality, compliance, and operational performance.

Wendy Hendrick – Executive Assistant

Wendy Hendrick – Executive Assistant

Wendy joined TKREO in 2016 and is a core member of our close‑knit office team. With 47 years of experience in office administration and finance, she is known for her meticulous attention to detail and her belief that “near enough is never good enough.” Her extensive expertise spans accounting and finance, payroll, the construction sector, and the reinforcing trade.
Before joining TKREO, Wendy held administration and finance roles across a wide range of industries, including local government, agriculture, automotive dealerships, and education. This diverse background gives her a broad and practical understanding of the many variables that support a successful business.
A true people person, Wendy is always willing to go the extra mile for customers, colleagues, and suppliers. Her approachable manner and readiness to help make her an invaluable part of the TKREO team.

Josh Beale – Estimator

Josh Beale – Estimator

Josh is TKREO’s Estimator and has been part of the business for six years—starting as a subcontractor before moving into a full‑time role. Before joining TKREO, he worked across multiple Fletcher Reinforcing branches, gaining a solid, hands‑on understanding of the reinforcing trade.
As a key member of the TKREO office team, Josh is responsible for completing detailed reinforcing measures to ensure customers receive accurate and competitive quotes.
Josh enjoys the work because it perfectly suits the way he thinks. He thrives on detail, and the process has become second nature to him—making the role both engaging and highly satisfying.

Matt Lovegrove – Cut and Bend Production Foreman

Matt Lovegrove – Cut and Bend Production Foreman

Currently the cut and bend workshop production foreman, Matt has been with the company for ten years, working in both the placing and workshop teams during this time. In his current role Matt manages the workshop production schedule to keep deliveries on track with site requirements. He oversees plant and equipment maintenance, manages health and safety for the workshop, and carries out stock takes. Matt also carries out materials testing in the company Materials Testing Laboratory. In his spare time, he also completes cut and bend work "on the tools".
Matt enjoys working with people to get the job done right. From workshop staff to drivers and suppliers and with customers to ensure they get what they need on time and on specification. You might even see him on site, making a delivery if this is what the job requires.

Leo Wairepo – Cut and Bend

Leo joined the company in 2019 and has been a key member of our cut and bend workshop ever since. Known for his strong customer‑service focus, Leo takes great pride in delivering work that meets the highest standards of quality, completed on time and to specification. He enjoys seeing each job through from start to finish — not just as it leaves the workshop, but right through to a smooth, problem‑free installation on site.
With a career in the reinforcing industry spanning 46 years, Leo has witnessed significant changes across the sector. He has seen the rise of automation and mechanisation, the growing emphasis on quality and customer satisfaction, and the ongoing improvements in health and safety. Throughout these developments, Leo has continued to adapt and stay at the forefront of industry practice.
A hands‑on, practical thinker, Leo thrives on the problem‑solving aspects of his work. His deep experience, steady approach, and commitment to getting the job done right make him a valued member of our team.

Charles Hiha – Cut and Bend

Charles Hiha – Cut and Bend

Charles started with the company in 2018 and has spent most of that time in the cut and bend workshop however he has also worked on site doing steel installation from time to time. He is a senior cut and bend operator setting up the Nextra and Prima automatic off coil cut and bend machines. He also operates the manual bending tables for large round steels and the shearline cutter. Charles was introduced to the reinforcing trade by his father, who worked at a local construction firm that dealt with Taranaki Reinforcing at the time.
Charles gets a lot of satisfaction seeing his role in the steel production contributing to the overall job on site. He enjoys dealing with customers and other tradies meeting people and building relationships on the job.
